Zanzibar
Spice islands, Swahili history and the Indian Ocean.
Overview
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous archipelago 25 kilometres off the Tanzanian coast. Stone Town, its UNESCO-listed old quarter, is a dense maze of coral-stone buildings reflecting Omani, Indian and Swahili influence. Beyond it lie the beaches most visitors come for, plus spice farms, Jozani Forest and some of the best diving in East Africa.
